The year...Is Over?!

I finished my damn pencils on my new book! They’re done! THey’re DONE!!!

I’m so excited and relieved, truly. Pencilling is where most of the magic* happens, for me, personally (*pain). I’m really excited to sit around for the next few months just watching movies on my computer and inking my little inks. Brain off!

2023 is over! My debut full-length graphic novel came out! I went on book tour a couple times! I got surgery twice – one terrifying and one of the good transgender kinds! I had to be on a jury! It’s been a truly strange and frustrating but ultimately rewarding year to be alive, and I can’t say how much it means to me that people read my work. It’s all I ever wanted to do and I’m so grateful I get to do it. So thank you for reading, truly.

Chazzerei

Okay so gift-giving holidays have basically come and gone and I got nothing going on in terms of appearances or events or whatever for the next couple months. But you know, I’m going to tell you to get a copy of Boys Weekend anyway. I have to. Legally!

1. Ill-advised late night sausage patty melt at the little pop-up food stand inside Finn McCools, as they were literally pulling the window thing down to close it but my brother in law was really hungry and in retrospect so was I and it was pretty good all things considered (NOLA)

2. EXTREMELY ill-advised 3AM DuPont circle “halal guys” (DC)* after a guy at the queer bar basically ripped the book I was reading out of my hand because I looked lonely and we talked for like 4 hours and he was very friendly and for some reason was carrying two vapes, one for him and one “for guests.”

A better showing from DC than I expected, truly! Let’s give it up for those clowns in congress (jk). Also this is all the stuff i ate in like. 4 days. I’m giving my stomach the month off.

• Went on Trashfuture and had a truly deranged time!

• Guested on Masters of Our Domain to talk about muffin tops

• Talked about my two least favorite Adamses, Eric and Scott, on 10k Posts.

• On the BW press front – nice shout-outs from Xtra Magazine and Autostraddle!

• We’re in the TOURNAMENT OF BOOKS next year baby! I’m ready to fight in the mind arena of intellectual combat. I’m the only graphic novel in there, which is both a real honor and more likely a portent for getting bounced in the first round.

• I have been looking for a “new home” for this here newsletter but it’s proving weirdly difficult! I don’t want to pay the amount of money that like, mass email marketers do, and I’m not trying to make money off having a monthly newsletter – something like TinyLetter would have been perfect but it’s obviously been shut down. Anyway if anyone has a line on a free newsletter service I’d love to hear it! I’ve seen all the articles that are like “substack alternatives!” and they’re all for people trying to charge subscriptions! I just wanna send my stupid little emails. Anyway!! Let me know.
