Good afternoon, beautiful people. This! Was an eventful month, I tell you what.
Chazzerei
BOOK TOUR. I went on a book tour. It was amazing! It was exhausting! I’m glad to be home with my wife, and my cat, and crucially all my stuff. Thank you to everyone who came out to an event, I had such an incredible time, and it means so, so much to me that people are reading the book, and connecting with it.
Yes, the book. Boys Weekend. It’s out now! Tell a friend.
I’m done talking about it (for now)? I do have another book I should be making. Whoops!
Appearances!
I will BE at San Diego Comic Con this year! Doing a couple panels and a signing. Schedule isn’t public yet but I’ll let people know on ~social media~ when it is. See you there!
Mattie’s Restaurant Review Corner
This week’s “Corner” Corner is book-tour themed. Here it is:
THE BEST THING I ATE IN EVERY CITY ON TOUR (disclaimer: I was in most place for like 24 hours don’t get mad at me i’ll be back eventually)
Boston: The “Starlite” burger at Trina’s Starlite Lounge in Somerville
Philly: Tahini shake (!) at Goldie
Chicago: Birria at Birreria Zaragoza (honorary mention: I went to Mr. Beef, which I found out later was the place The Bear is based on, and two guys behind the counter with thick chicago accents were screaming at each other and then both apologized. Authentic!)
LA: Cochinita Pibil quesadilla at Guisados. Incidentally, this is where I talked to Vogue.
San Francisco: When I stopped by to sign some books, the very nice people at Green Apple Books on the Park gave me some pound cake that someone at Tartine across the street had given them, and it was incredible.
Portland, OR: McDonald’s spicy chicken sandwich at airport while leaving (was feral at this point, forgot to eat. I know! I know about the good restaurants there. I know.)
Comics this month
Over on my Patreon (where you can see these puppies as they come out, earlier than anyone else! For the low low low low low price of $2/month):
And over on The Nib, where I’ll still be running weekly til the end of the summer:
Balance of Power – A much longer strip here than usual! Got a lot of thoughts down about corporate pride.
Odds and Ends
Interviews! Vogue, Bustle, Shondaland, Publisher’s Weekly, Entertainment Weekly!
Did an episode of The Maris Review with my friend Maris Kriezman.
Went on The Antifada to chat about operating the lathe of heaven, and piloting a submarine with a single button.
I wrote LitHub’s “The Craft of Writing” newsletter this week.
I did ALSO make some very fun merch for my pals in Speedy Ortiz. Wow!
I'm sorry I missed you in Portland. My fault. I was overbooked that weekend. I have regrets.
That tahini shake is the best. Which flavor did you get?
