the damn joy of freaking pure creation and other embarrassing things

I’ve just had my head down, inking like a madwoman!! Nothing else doing really. Inking rocks, really. I’m just hanging out and watching all of Star Trek all the way through. I’m onto Enterprise and let me tell you I’ve entered a real complicated relationship with the theme song. Did you know it was originally performed by Rod Stewart, for the PATCH ADAMS soundtrack? Anyway it sucks ass and I can’t stop listening to it. I got faiiiiiith, of the heaaaaaart

Chazzerei

A very exciting little update is the first-ever floppy comic I’ve ever written is out in February! I’ve got a story in Ahoy Comics’ PROJECT CRYPTID #6, illustrated by my absurdly talented friend Maki Naro. You can ask your local to stock it for you! Sharing the issue with my other absurdly talented friend Matt Bors. A glut of riches!

The Creative Process Corner

This month’s Corner Corner is about…creation? I guess! Let’s get loose with it. So the other weekend, we caught Kelly Reichardt’s astounding SHOWING UP (2022), with Reichardt there for a Q&A at the Museum of the Moving Image (in beautiful Queens!). I highly recommend seeing this if you can track it down, it really blew me away and (imo) did NOT get its due in theaters or at the awards. Here is my review and also the plot of the movie:

For real though, it sent me home with such an invigorating feeling about the act of CREATION, and it very nicely carried me through the weekend, where my band went back in the studio for the first time since 2018 and recorded 10 new songs and a cover –– it’ll be out sometime in March? April? Anyway! I don’t talk a TON about my band on here, but I love playing music with my friends so much, and it was so nice to sit around doing it and nothing else. I’m real excited for people to hear it, and I’m grateful to lead a creative life, and I’m trying to remember that! You can listen to our old albums on bandcamp (or spotify) and we’re also playing a show at Alewife brewing in LIC next Friday! Okay that’s all for now, about my band.
