I really did forgot to write this for two months because I went completely insane inking and coloring my new book, Simplicity! But the crazy news is: the first draft is DONE. I kind of can’t believe it! This one is thorny and weird and horny and strange and I’m so proud of it and hopefully you can all read it…next year sometime! Publishing is insane.
Chazzerei + Da Music Zone
First off…my band has a new single out today! It’s called NEW FLESH INSTRUCTIONS and you can listen to it on bandcamp or youtube!. Our third album, WEIRD CHILLS, is out 6/7 and you can PREORDER it digitally or on limited edition vinyl!
In the interregnum (that’s what I’m calling the two months I forgot to write the newsletter) I was a special guest at STAPLE in Austin Texas and had a wonderful time! Thanks to the whole team that puts on the show there.
Coming up very soon is TCAF in Toronto! I think the last one I did was 2019 and I’m very excited to return to one of my very favorite conventions. I’ll be on the second floor salon (sounds fancy) all weekend.
I’m told this, and I’m not sure it’s true, but Boys Weekend remains “for sale” wherever fine books are sold. That’s wild if so. Also, The Antifa Super-Soldier Cookbook got a second printing!
Trek Corner (Sorry)
This month’s corner corner is about Star Trek because I watched it ALL lately. Anyway here are my DEFINITIVE rankings. Obviously the jury is still out on three of these and I didn’t watch the original Animated Series, nor am i going to watch the one for children (?) currently airing.
Do NOT argue with me, I used a very scientific ranking system (vibes)
Deep Space Nine (my first love and still a full country mile ahead of the rest of the pack. Yowza!)
The Original Series (all your friends are here! wow)
Strange New Worlds (Recency bias possibly but I simply do not care)
Next Generation (worse than its reputation)
Lower Decks (I resisted for a long time but I really am having a blast with it)
Voyager (better than its reputation! Neelix forever)
Enterprise (Okay. so the last season is truly not bad. Mostly it’s a great exercise in why you should not be trying to firm up the Trek canon at all because the results are disastrous. However, it’s funny that they 9/11’d the entire state of Florida)
Discovery (watching this every week is like getting hit with a big hammer but i’m so obviously committed to CONTINUE TO WATCH THIS THING because I watched all the OTHER ones. Leave me alone, Star Trek: Discovery!!!!!)
Picard (“the third season is good” I kept hearing. It was jingling keys in front of a child!!! i’m an adult)
I also watched all the movies.
IV >II > First Contact > I > III > “Star Trek” > Insurrection > Generations > Beyond > V > Nemesis > Into Darkness
I have to watch something else now.
Comics this month the last three months
Over on my Patreon (where you can see these puppies as they come out, earlier than anyone else! For the low low low low low price of $2/month):
Odds and Ends
I was back on Trashfuture, naturally, in my capacity as Senior Eric Adams Correspondent.
Here’s a link to some campus bail funds.
For me Discovery gets good with the 3rd season, which is basically a reboot of the series because the writers couldn't deal with the nostalgia bait of the first two seasons (imho.) The best thing about the second season is that it gave us Anson Mount's Pike and Rebecca Romijn's Number One -- and eventually SNW.
Sending this list to my spouse so he can tell me his ST rankings
